Meet Archie

Meet Archie - this September Archie will be scaling the iconic Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh in a specially adapted off road wheelchair to raise funds for Junction 52, the Capability Scotland service he attends in Glasgow. Earlier on in the month, we caught up with Archie ahead of his challenge in September, to find out how he was getting on.

"I like that people in Edinburgh will get to see my piece, and know someone in Glasgow created it."

Archie is a keen artist and attends Junction 52 which is based in Penilee Community Centre on the outskirts of Glasgow. He attends two days a week where he is involved in a range of different activities, from art to audio (book) group to drama club.

Recently Archie created an amazing sculpture that is on display at reception at Westerlea in Edinburgh:

"I made a metal statue which is a man made of wire, it took a long time but I am very proud of it."

Archie also enjoys attending the gym at Junction 52. This is just as well as on September 6th he will be taking part in a thirteen mile challenge that will see him and a team of supporters, travel from the Pentlands in Edinburgh to Arthurs Seat. When we caught up with Archie he told us about how he came to be involved in the event:

"The challenge will be something new for me, Sean just sprung it upon me that day, I've never done anything like this before."

"I wanted to raise some money through sponsorship, and one day I came into Junction 52 and Sean, the Service Manager, said 'I've got just the challenge for you'. When he told me about the challenge I thought 'wow, this is going to be hard'! The challenge will be something new for me, Sean just sprung it upon me that day, I've never done anything like this before. Sean will be coming with me and some other members of staff. I am looking forward to raising money for something that is needed at Junction 52 that will help other people here."

Archie and his team from Junction 52 will be meeting the rest of their team, an eager group of volunteers from Barclays, shortly where they will attend a training day and get to know each other to prepare for the epic challenge!

We hope you'll join us in wishing Archie and his team good luck on the 6th September, make sure you follow #Peak2Peak for updates on the run up to the event.
