Meet Christine

Christine attends Junction 52 day opportunities, which is based in Penilee Community Centre on the outskirts of Glasgow.

Christine is involved in a range of different activities from home skills to computing.  She is also a member of our Hearts in Harmony choir.

Over an 8 month period Christine achieved one of her goals in life.  With the support of Junction 52, she graduated from In Control Scotland's internationally recognised leadership development programme for parents of disabled children and for disabled adults.  The programme helps participants build up their knowledge about what is happening in Scotland and around the world to help promote the inclusion of disabled people in society.

Christine had the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence she needed to move forward in her goal to help campaign and advocate on behalf of disabled people within our society.

"I have always been involved with Capability Scotland in various groups such as Customer Advisory Group, Disability Alliance Group and Drivers for Change.  I wanted to learn more and gain skills to enable me to help others,  not just within J52, but in the community as a whole.  I knew I had a voice but wasn't sure how to use it.  I knew through my own experiences living with a disability,  I wanted to be able to make a difference and help others.  This course has helped me build up my confidence and start to achieve this and I am now training to be an advocate".

Christine Graduated in May 2018 and since then has been heavily involved in advocating for others.  She continues to build her confidence.

Christine had a goal and worked hard to achieve it with the support of Capability Scotland.  Christine says, "I feel I can achieve anything I set my mind to now due to being part of and graduating from this fantastic programme".
